Memories of the North Leitrim Dancehalls: A Leitrim Women Through Time event

Leitrim Women Through Time (LWTT) is a multi-phase community heritage project run by the North Leitrim Women’s Centre and Scéal Heritage Consultancy, which celebrates and records the stories of everyday rural women neglected by history. The project encourages the public to come forward with stories, objects, and photographs of the lives and experiences of ordinary women from the county so that their histories can be recorded for the future, and that that they can be celebrated and commemorated. For Phase 2 of LWTT, the project held a programme of engaging public activities that focused on five of the local rural women's history themes that were chosen by the public during community workshops held during Phase 1. The themes included Women and Traditional Craft, Midwives and Maternity, Women and Healing, Women's Work outside the Home, and Women's Social lives. The events included talks by a range of speakers in these themes, accompanied by a traditional workshop or demonstration. Leitrim Women Through Time was supported by The Heritage Council Community Heritage Grant 2023.
