The composer was not satisfied with this, and spent several years revising the work, completing it in December 1979. This revised version was premiered on April 6, 1980 by the New Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Yasushi Akutagawa. The live recording of this performance was well received and has been released not only in Japan but also in Belgium, Bulgaria, Switzerland, the United States, the United Kingdom, and other countries. [...] The composer says of this work as follows. "I spent my youth in a small village on the plateau called ‘Shiyaanruru’ in the Ainu language. Many Ainu people still lived there, and old events and songs were handed down from generation to generation. Tapkaara means ‘to dance standing up’ in their language, and when they were excited, they would sing improvised poems and dance endlessly, following their feelings, whether they were happy or sad. It is a memory that still moves me to this day. In 1943, when I composed "Ballata Sinfonica," I composed the first movement in a sonata form, and I felt that I could call it a symphony, but eventually I didn't. After the war, I tried again and finally composed "Sinfonia Tapkaara." It is in three movements, and although it is somewhat like a symphony, the first movement is not properly in sonata form, and I had a hard time deciding whether to call it a "Sinfonia..." or not.
