Tie: Video Summary: 00:00 Introduction As with all our cigar reviews, the Cosecha 146 was stored in a Boveda acrylic humidor for three weeks with 69% RH Boveda packs and monitored with a Boveda butler. 00:46 Cigar Overview Launched in 2017, the 146 Cosecha was released to celebrate the 146th anniversary or harvest of the Plasencia family, which first started in Cuba in 1865. It's a Honduran and Nicaraguan blend, and it's actually manufactured at the Tabacos de Oriente SA in Honduras. The whole blend, the whole cigar consists entirely of Criollo 98, that was harvested in 2012. 01:42 Look & Feel The Cosecha 146 is wonderfully straight with few soft spots. It's firm to the touch and has a lovely sheen. Its colour is ground cinnamon with refined veins. The aromas consist of caramel, nutmeg, and labdanum musk. 02:22 Prelight In terms of draw, it is ideal. It gives you just the right amount of airflow and resistance. The flavors are quite modest. They're quite subtle, but that is certainly something there. Indeed, we have a salted caramel as opposed to caramel the last time. Indeed, there is a slight salty residue that is left on the lips, some cocoa specifically sweetened cocoa powder and not cacao and some Gourmet tonka bean that just adds a level of depth to the pre-light. 02:55 Tasting Notes The Plasencia Cosecha 146 opens with salted caramel, charred thyme, and cinnamon. The second third consists of molasses, charred bay leaf, and rosewood. Eventually, the final third reveals oak, leather, and nutmeg. While not overly complex, it is wonderfully refreshing with a pleasant mouthfeel. It's very balanced and causes no salivation or dryness. The cigar's flavours evolve but it reminds quite medium in body. 08:01 Burn Although the Plasencia 146 Cosecha's burn isn't perfect it requires no touch-ups. Furthermore, it has a nice backbone and reveals a steely grey colour. However, it can plop off. The smoking temperature remains cool. 08:28 Overall Experience Three bands may sound like a lot but they're very pleasant to look at and the one on the foot is functional. As the main band is quite large, the last one can stay on to keep ornamentation as you finish the cigar. The colours are pleasant, which is reflected in the box, which is quite modern when compared to other blends like the Reserve Original. Expect an RRP of $12 and you can pick up a box of 10 for around $100. The cigar is very versatile and can be taken to special occasions. Its colours are ideal for weddings. Otherwise, it's also a good choice for enjoying with friends or casually alone. 11:11 Pairings Consider accompanying it with pretzels or ground beef dishes. For instance, it would go well with an Italian ragu, a classic burger, or steak tartare. Otherwise, consider magret de canard. As for beverages, it pairs well with light yet well-aged floral rums such as Flor de Caña. You can also try a root beer or even armagnac rather than cognac, which is similar but somewhat fruitier.
