The concept is simple: Instead of boosting everything in a frequency band, Band first removes the parts of the signal that could cause problems at that specific frequency. What remains is then boosted. You are not boosting harshness. You are not boosting unstable peaks. You are boosting what is left after the problematic content is removed. Band uses a completely different internal technique compared to Talc, but the philosophy is the same. Under the hood, Band uses phase cancellation to remove problematic peaks and unstable content in the selected band. When those elements are phase-cancelled out of the signal, what remains is the more stable and musically useful material. This is why the Inverse function behaves the way it does. When you activate Inverse, you flip the phase relationship. Instead of cancelling the problematic content, you reinforce it. In other words, you boost what would otherwise be removed. This makes Inverse both a monitoring tool and a creative trick. Controls Gain -6 dB to +6 dB attenuation / boost. LM – Loudness Match Compensates for level differences so you can judge tone instead of volume. INV – Inverse Flips the phase relationship. Lets you hear what is being removed. Also works as a trick: pull Gain negative and use INV to boost only the highest peaks in that band. FREQ Select the target frequency. WIDTH Q control. Affects the processing only when Gain is positive. Does not change behavior when attenuating. Delta Listen to what is being removed. Bypass Compare processed vs original.
