Today, we will adventure into the Sonoran Desert to look for a wild Arizona Barrel Cactus and see if we can forage some ripe cactus fruit. Barrel Cactus grow all over the southwest U.S., from California to Arizona and in Mexico, but there are several different varieties. The cactus we are foraging today produces yellow fruits reminiscent of tiny pineapples, and packed with nutrition! You can harvest the seeds and the fruit flesh, and today when we discover a cactus plant almost taller than my head we will see how to prepare the fruit right there in the field!
