In this Winter Conference session, PTx research agronomist Cory Muhlbauer explore how farmers can unlock higher yield potential by improving singulation, spacing, depth, emergence, and canopy development. He walks through eight years of PTI research that highlights the yield loss tied to poor singulation and delayed emergence, showing what happens when individual plants fail to capture sunlight efficiently. Cory reveals a deeper agronomic opportunity: seed orientation. You will learn how embryo and tip direction influence emergence timing and early leaf development, affecting light interception and yield potential. Through clear explanations of tropisms and the physics of germination, he demonstrates how the path from seed to surface can be shortened or lengthened depending on how the seed enters the furrow. Ryan Baker from the PTx engineering team then introduces ArrowTube, a breakthrough system that uses strategic friction, controlled seed paths, centrifugal force, and a high-speed sensing and delivery mechanism to orient seeds consistently at planting speeds up to 10 mph. He details how the accelerator loop, feeder wheels, helix path, and orientation detection system work together to place each seed in the ideal orientation for fast uniform emergence. Finally product manager Jermy Hodel shares real world results of using ArrowTube across thousands of acres, including reductions in late emergers, improved leaf orientation and sunlight capture, better spacing at high speed, and yield advantages in both corn and soybeans. Topics Covered • Singulation and spacing • Uniform emergence • Seed orientation agronomy • Plant tropisms • Engineering of ArrowTube • Seed acceleration and friction dynamics • High speed planting • Leaf orientation and canopy exposure • Agronomic and yield results Learn more at precisionplanting.com.
