The diagnosis, treatment and recovery in Maggie the beagle from Sterile / Steroid Responsive Canine Meningitis. We were extremely blessed to find a vet who was honest and upfront about what can/could be done. While telling us that we could spend thousands on spinal taps and MRI's, he suggested a treatment of prednisone and potassium bromide. The prednisone would help with the swelling of the nervous system tissues and the bromide would help to lessen and hopefully prevent the horrible seizures that Maggie endured. If you find yourself in a similar situation, ask the vet to prescribe a steroid and see if that helps (Maggie was doing better withing several hours of her first does of Prednisone). We never did the spinal tap or the imaging because the vet was correct and the prednisone and bromide combo worked like a champ. After six or seven weeks of treatment, Maggie was fine. I wish you the best of luck in your struggle and I wish your dog a speedy recovery! Please reach out if I can answer any questions.
