It's mid to late October and I visit Silver Falls State Park for one last tent camping trip of the season. I stay in the A loop in site 63 (my second time camping at Silver Falls State Park in 2025.) The first night I was visited by two skunks and a raccoon. They were fun to watch and hang out with. The raccoon quickly grabbed a piece of jerky out of my hands and I felt its nails on my skin. Luckily it didn't injure me at all, just gave me a fright because I wasn't expecting the raccoon to grab at me like that. One of them also stole a chicken sandwich and some hard-boiled eggs out of my cooler when I wasn't looking. I found the containers that the food was in near Silver Creek. The next day I walked to Smith Creek Village to explore the area because I had never been there before. I bought a coffee inside the restaurant/gift shop and walked around to see the various styles of cabins they have available to rent. I then hiked the Buck mountain loop trail which took me up the mountain and back around to the cabin village just as dusk was settling in. The area is part of the Silver Falls State Park backcountry. I flew my drone when I was at the top of the mountain. It was a good hike. I enjoyed seeing all the pumpkins and Halloween decorations around the cabin village. I took a shower at the campground and then made some dinner around the campfire. The next day I woke up to leaf-blowers and a heavy rain. I hurriedly packed up camp and made my way to the historic South Falls District to begin hiking the Trail of Ten Falls. The autumn colors made for picturesque scenery as I made my way behind South Falls and Lower South Falls. I completed the 8.4 mile Trail of Ten Falls hike and then saw two young bucks sparring, which was a special thing to witness after such a wonderful weekend at one of my favorite places in the world: Silver Falls State Park.
