Andreja Andric (b. 1973) — Toccata, canto e saltarello (2026) for organ Carson Cooman, organ 0:00 | 1. Toccata 3:31 | 2. Canto 7:53 | 3. Saltarello The composer writes: “Toccata, canto e saltarello” (2026) is a triptych exploring an imaginary sound space from a distant past, assuming that the history of music went a different route. As a triptych, it is loosely modeled on some of Bach’s three-movement organ works, like Toccata, Adagio, and Fugue in C major, BWV 564 and Prelude, Fugue, and Allegro, BWV 998. The opening Toccata takes inspiration from Italian Renaissance toccatas. Canto, the meditative middle movement, is loosely inspired by Gregorian chant. The final Saltarello concludes the work in a festive spirit through a pair of contrasting dances, recalling the secular origins of the organ.
