𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐓𝐂𝐇: In an exclusive interview with Pulse of Africa (POA) English on 19 February 2025, H.E Moses Vilakati, the African Union (AU) Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy, and Sustainable Environment, detailed his vision for transforming the continent's agricultural sector. Vilakati emphasised that Africa must harness new technologies to modernize agriculture and increase productivity. He outlined a four-year vision to capacitate the continent for food self-reliance through increased local production. In more recent remarks, he highlighted that water security is critical for achieving Agenda 2063, noting the AU’s decision to make "Water" the theme for 2026 to close a $30 billion annual investment gap. He advocated for strategic investment in resilient infrastructure, noting that 42% of Africa's current needs are for maintenance and upgrading rather than just new builds. Vilakati, originally from the Kingdom of Eswatini, previously served as the nation's Minister of Agriculture and Minister of Tourism.
