BRASS FROM THE PAST: Rare 1950s or 1960s 8 Bell Martin's Soprano Trumpet, also known as (Martinshorn) (Signal Horn) (Schalmei). Made in the (GDR) German Democratic Republic (East Germany). This is a very interesting and odd horn. Originally invented in 1880 by Max B. Martin and later revitalized in the GDR. This is a (free reed aerophone) which contains one reed for each horn. The 3 valves direct the airflow into each individual bell which has a metal reed. This horn is only capable of playing an 8 note diatonic one octave scale. From G to G. However, there are 2 reeds on this horn that do not play. I was not able to repair them. So I was somewhat limited in what I was able to play on this horn. The instrument is only able to be played at one volume. The mouthpiece is used merely to blow into, not as a source of vibration. The valves are very noisy and hard to push down. This horn is definitely the worst sounding instrument in my collection. 🤣 I purposely made a short demonstration video to spare my viewers of this ungodly sound. 🥴Listen to sounds from the past. About 70 years ago more or less. "Mary Had A Little Lamb". Beethoven: "Symphony No. 5".
