The iconic marble arch at the north end of the park was completed in 1891 to honor the centennial of George Washington’s inauguration as the first President of the United States. Just east of the park lies NoHo, whose name means “North of Houston Street.” In the 1800s this district developed as an important commercial and manufacturing area. Many of the elegant buildings from that time still stand today and are known for their detailed cast-iron façades and historic architecture. Further south is SoHo, one of the most famous neighborhoods in New York. Its name stands for “South of Houston Street.” Once filled with warehouses and factories, the area was transformed in the late 20th century when artists moved into the large loft spaces. Today SoHo is known for its art history, boutiques, and for having the largest concentration of cast-iron buildings in the world. ☕ Support the channel Buy Me a Coffee https://www.buymeacoffee.com/olfocus 📷 Instagram / ninakamerica / alexeyk_nyc ▶️ Subscribe for more NYC walking tours / olfocus #NYCWalk #NoHoNYC #SoHoNYC #WashingtonSquare #ManhattanWalk #NewYorkWalkingTour #DowntownManhattan #CityWalking #NYC4K #StreetsofNYC
