Giuseppe Maria Marangoni (1866-1945) SONATA IN VECCHIO STILE per contrabbasso e pianoforte Giancarlo Pavan: contrabbasso Keiko Imai: pianoforte Giuseppe Maria Marangoni è un compositore, didatta e strumentista brillante, nato a Lugo di Romagna nel 1866 e lì scomparso nel 1945. Presso i suoi contemporanei godeva di chiara fama e si è esibito nei maggiori teatri d’ Europa e delle Americhe. È stato docente in Grecia, poi a Bologna e soprattutto presso il conservatorio “Cherubini” di Firenze dove ha formato nomi importanti della scena musicale italiana. Già settantenne era ancora “preteso”, per la sua valenza, nell’Orchestra Sinfonica Fiorentina. Ma, nonostante tutto ciò, rappresenta un caso di singolare dimenticanza poiché, per circa un secolo, l’uomo e la sua musica sono inspiegabilmente caduti in un totale oblio e solo il suo famoso Metodo teorico-pratico per lo studio del contrabbasso, da sempre utilizzato nei conservatori, è restato a tramandarne il nome. La SONATA IN VECCHIO STILE, è un brano in tre tempi che si basa sullo stile delle danze antiche usate nelle suites e nelle sonate del periodo barocco. Marangoni rielabora gli stilemi della tradizione settecentesca per ridisegnare tre quadri musicali degni di nota da un punto di vista compositivo, che con tono nostalgico e solenne o invero ironico e scanzonato offre tre scene di grande impatto emotivo e creativo. He was a teacher in Greece, then in Bologna and above all at the "Cherubini" conservatory in Florence where he trained important names on the Italian music scene. Already in his seventies he was still "demanded", due to his value, in the Florentine Symphony Orchestra. But, despite all this, it represents a case of singular forgetfulness since, for about a century, the man and his music have inexplicably fallen into total oblivion and only his famous theoretical-practical method for the study of the double bass, which has always used in conservatories, the name has remained to be passed down. The SONATA IN THE OLD STYLE is a piece in three movements based on the style of ancient dances used in the suites and sonatas of the Baroque period. Marangoni reworks the stylistic features of the eighteenth-century tradition to redesign three musical paintings worthy of note from a compositional point of view, which with a nostalgic and solemn or indeed ironic and light-hearted tone offers three scenes of great emotional and creative impact.
