** Please note, this is the only episode of Don't Tell Father I have. ** Don't Tell Father was a short lived, 6 part BBC 1 sitcom that aired on Sunday night's from April to May of 1992. Written by Roy Clarke and directed by Harold Snoad (both of Keeping Up Appearances), the sitcom detailed the exploits of vain, egotistical actor Vivien Bancroft. Selfish and self absorbed in the extreme, Vivien likes nothing more than lording it over his wife Natasha and daughter Kate. He is less than impressed by Kate’s relationship with Marvin Whipple. Don't Tell Father features Tony Britton as Vivian Bancroft, Susan Hampshire as his wife Natasha, Caroline Quentin and Richard Ashton as siblings Kate and Garth, and Philip Fox as Kate's boyfriend Marvin. Description taken from the Genome website, in this the first episode; Vivian has never met his daughter's new boyfriend but the young man's arrival, at a rather inconvenient moment, certainly doesn't go unnoticed. Don't Tell Father launched with an audience of 9.58 million, but after its 3rd week, dropped out of the BBC 1 top 30. The series was not renewed for a second series and is little remembered today. It is not hard to see why, but people can make their own minds up! The tape this came from was missing the first few moments of the episode but remains pretty much complete.
