아직은 겨울의 여파가 다 가지않은 2013년 3월 초, 다가올 봄을 대비하는 새싹들 처럼 설레는 마음을 안은 대학교 첫 등교길이었다. 6호선 새절역으로 향하는 지하철에서 나는 그를 처음 보았다. 잘생긴 외모와 훤칠한 키에 빨간색 기타케이스를 멘 그의 모습은 강렬했고 서로의 존재만 알던 우리는 어색한 대화를 나누며 같이 등교했다. 같은 전공과 같은 나이, 블루스기타를 치며 노래를 부른다는 비슷한 성향을 가진 우리는 둘도 없는 동기이자 친구가 되었고 같이 자고 생활하며 많은 음악을 교류했다. 그는 언제나 나보다 음악을 많이 알았고 지식이 풍부했다. 그 시절 그가 추천해줬던 좋은 음악들은 지금의 내 음악에 양분이 되어주었으며, 허름한 3층 집 자취방에서 술에 취해 하던 잼은 지금의 내가 연주에 영혼을 불어넣을 수 있게 해줬다. 졸업을 하고 각자의 활동을 하며 시간이 지나 지금에 이를 때까지 우리는 떨어져 있었지만 술을 먹으며 기타에 대한 얘기를 할때는 언제나 대학교 새내기 시절처럼 순수해진다. 아직도 꿈이 가득한 두 청년이 오랜만에 술잔을 기울이며 기타를 쳐본다. 이 노랫말을 되새기며 ‘Fly on, Little Wing’ -------------- It was the beginning of March 2013. Winter hadn’t fully loosened its grip yet, but my heart was already fluttering like new sprouts waiting for spring—it was my very first day heading to university. I saw him for the first time on the subway to Saejeol Station, Line 6. He was tall, good-looking, and had a striking presence, especially with that bright red guitar case slung over his shoulder. We didn’t know much about each other back then, but we shared a few awkward words and walked to school together. We were the same age, studied the same major, and had similar tastes—we both played blues guitar and sang. We quickly became close friends, inseparable classmates who lived together, shared music, and spent countless nights jamming and talking. He always knew more about music than I did—his knowledge was deep and inspiring. The music he introduced to me back then became the foundation of my sound today. And those late-night jam sessions in our shabby third-floor apartment, half-drunk, gave my playing the soul it needed. Even though we’ve gone our own ways since graduation, whenever we sit down with a drink and talk about guitars, it feels just like those early days again—two young guys, still full of dreams. And tonight, after all these years, we pick up our guitars once more, raising a glass to old memories. And say 'Fly on, Little Wing.'
