In DBT, we often use the skill Pros and Cons to help us determine what skillful means are required to get us to our goal (or the result we hope to achieve in a situation). We may determine the Pros and Cons of using DBT skills in a situation in which we have an action urge or are determining between two courses of action. An action urge is a crisis when it is very strong, and acting on the urge will make things worse in the long term. The DBT Skill "Pros and Cons" helps us to weigh out the pros and cons of a situation so that we can use our Wise Mind when dealing with a situation. Making a Pros and Cons list helps us to rationally think about a situation.
