22:16 hrs. — Firefighters were dispatched at about 22:16 hrs. and arrived to find a fully involved duplex fire. Command setup a defensive attack due to the collapse of the 2nd division and part of the roof collapsed. Fire Fighters also had to deal with downed power lines on the “C” side (rear) of the structure. Three areal trucks were put in service on Side A (Front) due to the deteriorating condition of the structure. A collapse zone was established prior to the structures collapse onto the neighboring home at 164 Railroad Street. 00:49hrs. The fire was brought under control in a little over 1 ¼ hrs. With extensive overhaul required as the structure continued to burn. The intense head caused exterior damage to the exterior of 164 Railroad Street. Units started being placed in service around 01:00 hrs. Unites across 3 counties covered the community in the event of an additional need arise. The Red Cross is assisting those involved. Mount Carmel Township Fire Marshal Brian Hollenbush, confirmed the “blaze started on the first division near the front of the duplex of 170 Railroad Street.” “The fire quickly spread to an adjoining home at 172 Railroad Street.” “A neighbor alerted Beaver about the fire.” “Everyone along with their pets escaped prior to the fire departments arrival.” “Investigation is continuing into the cause of the blaze.” Responding to this incident Mount Carmel Borough and Township, Ashland, Butler Township, Elysburg, Kulpmont, Overlook, Shamokin, Wilburton, Frackville along with several fire companies from Columbia, Schuylkill and Northumberland Counties supplied crews to cover and protect the residence of the area during this incident.
