Dennis Prager is absolutely a heretic according to the Torah. He is one of the most dangerous enemies of Judaism today because he presents himself as a protector of Judaism while openly violating and distorting the Torah. Let me be very clear about what makes him a heretic: First, Dennis Prager openly admits he drives on Shabbat. He rationalizes this by saying he's only driving to shul, not to work or the mall. But the Torah explicitly states "lo te'varu eish bechol moshevoteichem beyom haShabbat" - you shall not kindle a fire in any of your dwellings on Shabbat. He dismisses the 39 melachot and thinks he can create his own version of Shabbat observance. Second, he doesn't believe that every word of the Torah is from God. He's on record saying he has "no position" on who wrote the Torah. According to the Rambam in Hilchot Teshuva, someone who says Moshe Rabbeinu made statements independently is considered as denying the entire Torah and has no share in the World to Come. Third, he openly rejects the authority of our Chachamim. He doesn't agree with keeping Yom Tov Sheni, which was decreed by the Sages in the Gemara. He says he debates with them as if he's on the same level as Rabbi Akiva! He even says that Rashi is not relevant but Dennis Prager is relevant. The Gemara in Masechet Shabbat says anyone that thinks the Sages are just regular people is for sure a donkey. Fourth, he promotes premarital sex between consenting adults and supports abortion, even though the Torah says both are forbidden with severe punishments including karet. What makes Dennis Prager particularly dangerous is that he looks kosher on the surface - like a pig that has split hooves but doesn't chew its cud. He makes videos about the Ten Commandments, he talks about God, he wrote commentary on the Five Books of Moses. This confuses people, especially in the Modern Orthodox and Chabad communities who invite him to speak at their synagogues. But the Chafetz Chaim is very clear in his sefer about people like this. He writes that someone who repudiates the Torah, denies prophecy, or disagrees with the Oral Law is a kofer (heretic) and an apikores. According to halacha, it's not only permitted but it's a mitzvah to degrade and humiliate such people, whether directly or not, to warn others about them. The biggest problem isn't just Dennis Prager himself - it's the Jewish communities that give him a platform. When you know someone drives on Shabbat and you still invite him to your Orthodox shul, you're enabling the problem. You're making it bigger. These synagogues are literally promoting someone who desecrates the Torah publicly. His influence extends to his students and followers, including people like Asher Meza and Ben Shapiro, who have absorbed his heretical rationalist approach. He even has Christian missionaries on the staff of his Prager University, including Andrew Klavan who works for One for Israel, one of the worst missionary organizations targeting Jews. Dennis Prager has no share in the World to Come unless he does complete teshuva and stops his heretical teachings. Anyone who continues to follow him, support him, or invite him to speak becomes a partner in his crimes against the Torah.
