The summer of 1977 was chaos in Chicago. Heat, tension, and a city desperate for something to believe in. Out of nowhere, the Chicago White Sox, a roster of castoffs and journeymen, caught fire and turned Comiskey Park into the loudest, wildest cathedral in sports. But this all began with a discovery. An old, satin White Sox team-issued jacket found on eBay. Tracing its history opened a door into the most absurd, electric, and unforgettable baseball summer Chicago has ever known. At the center was Bill Veeck, the maverick owner who turned the South Side into a carnival: showers in the outfield, belly dancers, clowns, witches and Nancy Faust's organ. A circus, yes ... but one that somehow won games. Fans who once stayed home now roared to their feet for strikeouts, filling the stands night after night. And at the heart of it all? The man who wore that jacket. This wasn’t baseball. It was survival. A city in economic despair, finding joy in nine innings at a time. For one fleeting summer, team and town lifted each other up: proof that sometimes the city saves the team, and sometimes the team saves the city. This is a baseball documentary about underdogs, comebacks, and the most unlikely rise in MLB history. This is the story of the South Side Hitmen.
