After Mussolini was ousted in Italy and replaced by Marshall Badoglio in July 1943, the Germans were preparing to occupy Italy. They knew about the negotiations between Italy and the Allies for an armistice, and sent troops to Italy to occupy the country, under the pretense of protecting Italy against an Allied invasion. When the Armistice between Italy and the Allies was made public on September 8th, these German troops quickly occupied northern and central Italy, and disarmed and interned over 413,000 Italian soldiers. The following is footage from German units entering and occupying Italian cities, such as Milan or Reggio, which was shown in German propaganda newsreels in late September 1943. It also shows footage of paratroopers fighting with Italian troops in Rome, and combat footage from southern Italy, where German troops fight against Allied landings. - Subtitles made by me.
