It is an informal street name. It is composed of the streets from Mok Cheong Street to the north, Ma Tau Kok Road to the south, and 11 old district streets between the two streets (arranged in order from west to east): Lung To Street, Fung Yi Street, Luk Ming Street, Lun Cheung Street, Ying Yeung Street, Pang Ching Street, Hung Wan Street, Shim Luen Street, Yin On Street, Tsun Fat Street and Hok Ling Street. The first letter of their street names are taken from Chinese auspicious beasts. Since 1920s, Thirteen Street were developed to have factories. Because of the rapid population growth and the demand for housing increased in the 1950s, the landlords built the current tenement houses. The Thirteenth Street used to be a "private street" where you can park at will. Therefore, it has attracted a large number of garages. Nowadays, there are close to 200 garages. Later, the government took back the management due to the harsh environment. The old tenements have been in disrepair. The Urban Renewal Authority and the owners have been discussing the building renewal for a long time and there is still no conclusion.
