The Modern Shed Floor System

Modern Shed’s unique floor system consists of a nesting set of perimeter beams and enclosed panels. The perimeter beam structure is created with 4 pressure-treated 4 by 10 beams. We use pressure treated ledgers for the panels to rest on along the two long beams. The enclosed floor panels are then nested inside of the perimeter structure. The floor panels have 2 by 6 joists and blocking, are 16” on center, and are sheathed on the underside with ½” pressure treated plywood. The standard insulation is R21 and the sub-floor is ¾” ACX plywood. In conjunction with the pressure treated perimeter beams the entire floor system becomes ground contact enabled allowing for significant flexibility and potential cost reduction associated with installation Together, this system provides an extremely strong, insulated and squeak free floor ready for any type of floor covering material.
