Atlanta was one of many places in the United States that saw resistance to urban freeway construction in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s. In Atlanta, Georgia this movement stopped the construction of two freeways that would have cut swathes of destruction through historically black neighborhoods. However, that did not come before significant destruction had already taken place. The John Lewis Freedom Parkway is a pseudo-freeway stub that ended up consuming some of the space that had been cleared out for larger freeways. This 1 1/2 mile partially-limited-access freeway is an odd one. Let's replace it with something more livable and walkable: a 4-lane boulevard. What would that it look like? Find out!
