Hi everyone! Welcome! we are so excited to share what we’ve been learning in our Cambridge Primary Science class. Let's embrace the curiosity that lives in all of us. Let's ask big questions, make glorious mistakes, and discover the pure joy of figuring things out. Get ready to play, to explore, and to see the world with fresh eyes. A big hello to our fantastic Grade 1 students, our wonderful teachers, and our supportive parents. We're going to take a journey into the amazing world of... Living Things! Okay, scientists, let's warm up our brains! Look at this picture. What do you see? Can you guess the words? Turn to a partner and share your ideas! (Pause for a moment to let students share) Our first big idea was learning what it means to be alive! We discovered that there are two big groups: Living things and Non-living things. How do we know if something is alive? Well, all living things need food! You need food to grow, your pet needs food, and even plants need food! But this book? It doesn't get hungry. So it's non-living. Let's read these words together, nice and loud! Ready? (Lead the class in reading the vocabulary words: Alive, Animal, Group, Living, Look, Non-living, Plant, Water) We became sorting experts! We looked out the window and all around our classroom. We found living things like ants, trees, and our friends! And we found non-living things like chairs, windows, and backpacks. Parents, you can keep playing this "living or non-living" game anywhere you go—it's a fun way to learn! Next, we zoomed in on plants! We all became artists and scientists by drawing our own plants and labeling all the important parts we could see. Let's do our fun clapping game! Everyone, stand up! Clap and say with me: Root... Stem... Leaf... Flower... Fruit... Seed! (Do this with the students, clapping on each word). Great job! We learned so many new big words! We used our eyes to observe and noticed that plants can look different or similar. Some of us even used a magnifying glass to see the tiny details! Now, let's see if we remember what each part does. I need your help to fill in the blanks! "The flower is the part where the seeds are made." "The leaf makes food for the plant." "The roots collect water and hold the plant still." "The stem holds the leaves and flowers up." You are all so smart! Then, we asked a very important question: What do plants need to grow? We talked to our friends and realized that sunlight is super important! We learned that if a plant is kept in a dark closet, it won't be able to grow strong and healthy. We discovered another thing plants need... WATER! Just like we get thirsty, plants get thirsty too. We talked about how we can help take care of plants at home by giving them water and making sure they are healthy. And for a special treat, one of our amazing young scientists has a fun fact to share about plants! (Have a pre-selected student come up or read a fact yourself, e.g., "The tallest tree in the world is called a Redwood tree and it's as tall as a skyscraper!" or "Some plants can eat insects!") So, as you can see, we have been very busy exploring, asking questions, and discovering the wonderful world of living things around us. Our Grade 1 scientists have done an incredible job. Keep your eyes open and your curiosity ready. The world is full of incredible living things waiting for you to notice them! Thank you to the teachers for guiding their curiosity, and a huge thank you to the parents for your support. Keep asking your children about living and non-living things you see at home or in the park! Thank you all for listening!
