20220601 In recent 20 years, the explosion of anticancer therapy has significantly improved the survival of hematology and oncology patients. Concomitant with the great advance, cardiologists started to notice the emergency of new onset heart failure, hypertension crisis and even fulminant myocarditis in cancer treatment by initially anthracycline, then monoclonal antibody against HER 2 receptor, VEGF inhibitor for angiogenesis suppression, multiple tyrosine kinase inhibitors and latest immune checkpoint inhibitor for lung cancer etc. So many anticancer pathways and so many unexpected cardio-vascular toxicity, besides common risk factors between cancer and CVD, urges more cardiologists to devote in the integrated care of cancer patients during their much improved survival. It's a brand new frontier for all cardiologists to learn and update our knowledge together with our hemato-oncology colleagues.
