Carlsbad Caverns National Park Review With Kids

This week we’re talking about Carlsbad Caverns National Park located in South Eastern New Mexico. Before we marked Carlsbad Caverns as a stopping point on our road trip we didn’t know anything about it. We definitely weren’t expecting to be 775 feet below the surface staring at one of the most awe-inspiring sites we’ve seen in a long time. These videos don’t even come close to doing the caverns justice. For example, Carlsbad Cavern is only one of the 120 underground caves to be discovered and explored. Thankfully, it’s been developed to allow visitors of all ages and mobility to explore the awe-inspiring site. The main cavern’s big room trail is 1.25 miles and takes about an hour and a half to complete. While that was a pretty big ask for the girls they managed well enough since we were carrying them 90% of the time. But to be honest Trang and I were both pretty spent by the time we made it back to the elevators. I know it’s dark in the footage but the paved trail & railings are well maintained and easy to follow. That being said, like all National Parks, the caverns can quickly become dangerous if you stray from the path. If you plan to visit with younger kids be sure to keep them within a safe distance and always be aware of the dangerous drops that could be lurking just on the other side of the rail. Also, make sure to account for some downtime waiting for the elevators to take you up. On our visit, the line took us about 20-30 minutes before we were back inside an elevator. Overall Carlsbad caverns is an amazing place. We would have never guessed such a wonder was located 800 feet below the surface and we thoroughly enjoyed our time walking the big room trail. If you’re on the fence about visiting we would definitely recommend going. You really need to see this unique National Park with your own eyes It’s truly amazing. That’s it was now. See ya next week.
