Just for fun we decided while traveling in Australia that we'd like to try eating Australian snacks and Australian junk food reacting to it for the first time - in the form of a taste test - from our apartment (#Room753) here in the Gold Coast. We decided to key in mostly on Australian chocolate bars, beverages and crisps. All of the food items we were trying for the first time. Some of the thinks we tried tasting included as follows: 1) Shapes 2) Freckles 3) Tim Tam 4) Bowen Mango Macadamia chocolate balls 5) Fantales 6) Chicos 7) Lamington 8) Chokito 9) Violet Crumble 10) Cherry Ripe 11) Mint Pattie 12) Anzac Biscuits 13) Kirk's Olde Stoney Ginger Beer 14) Bundaberg Ginger Beer 🎉 Aussie Supermarket Snack Taste Test with Samuel & Audrey Join Samuel and Audrey as they stock up on classic Australian treats and junk-food delights—then take your taste buds on a whirlwind tour through down-under flavours! 🎬 In-Order Summary Points Welcome to Australia – Fresh off a flight, jet-lagged but excited, Samuel and Audrey hit the local supermarket to load up on sweets and savoury snacks. Snack Haul Reveal – A colourful spread of chips, biscuits, chocolates and candies spills across the table—“mostly junk food, and that’s just fine!” Shapes (Arnott’s) – Savoury pizza-flavoured crackers in the shape of Australia. “Nice and salty… perfect for movie night munching.” Freckles – Chocolate buds coated in hundreds-and-thousands. “Crunchy, chocolatey, and a bit surprising—thumbs up!” Tim Tam (Original) – The iconic “most irresistible chocolate biscuit.” Layers of creamy filling sandwiched between cookies, enrobed in milk chocolate. “Chocolate overload in the best way.” Bowen Mango Macadamias – Chocolate-covered macadamias infused with mango flavour. “A glorious combo of my three favourites: mango, chocolate and macadamia.” Fantales – Chewy, caramel-style chews in a retro tin. Too sticky and old-fashioned: “Feels like candy your grandmother would carry—hard pass.” Chicos – Oddly shaped, naked-baby gummies. “Artificial, overly chewy, and oddly flavoured—definitely not for us.” Lamington (Diet Variety) – Soft sponge cake coated in thin chocolate and desiccated coconut. “Surprisingly light and delicious—ideal with afternoon tea.” Chokito – Bar of chewy caramel, fudge and crisped rice balls enrobed in dark chocolate. “Rich, satisfying and could easily compete in North America.” Violet Crumble – “It’s the way it shatters that matters”—honeycomb centre that cracks under your bite. “Like a coffee-meringue hybrid—super sweet.” Cherry Ripe – Coconut and dark-cherry filling under a chocolate shell. “Big cherry punch with a hint of coconut—addictive!” Mint Pattie (50% Less Fat) – Peppermint-filled chocolate squares. “Subtle mint, slightly chewy centre—nice after-dinner treat.” ANZAC Biscuits – Classic oat-butter cookies. “Rich, buttery and satisfyingly crunchy—perfect for Anzac Day nostalgia.” Kirk’s Olde Stoney Ginger Beer – “Australian made since 1865,” herbal and medicinal-tasting. “Strong after-burn of ginger—interesting, but not our go-to.” Bundaberg Ginger Beer – Featuring Samuel & Audrey’s faces on the label courtesy of Pepper’s Hotel. “Smooth, gingery goodness—we’d happily endorse this one!” Final Verdict – Over 90% of their picks scored a thumbs-up. Top three faves: Chokito bar, Cherry Ripe, Shapes crackers and Lamingtons. Only Chicos earned a thumbs-down.
