There are nice interiors and then there are interiors that really grab you —the ones that just feel special. So how do you get that personal, artful, stunning look? The difference is in the details. Scarlet Reagan Gallery owner and veteran Dallas artist, Kristi Kennimer, talks with interior designer Dana Bass, owner of Dana Bass Designs about how successful designers collaborate with skilled artists to give their clients the perfect art for their home. For this commission, Kennimer painted a 10-foot custom oil painting for Bass' VIP client. The art is the feature element in this grand open two-story living space, which is at the hub of the home. "Art in a double volume living room with high ceilings can be tricky. The fireplace architecture often constricts the width of the art and demands a long, vertical piece. Getting the scale and composition just right is, in itself, an art. And then there's the balance of color, making the art live up to the dimensions and yet also still allow the other design elements in the room to talk. There are so many elements to factor in, and this is what I do every day," says Kennimer. Dana Bass Designs As seen in Modern Luxury Interiors magazine 2021: “"Standard design is like buying a one-size-fits-all dress—it rarely works,' says Dana Bass of Dana Bass Designs. That’s why the award-winning interior designer and ASID chair elect places utmost importance on creating unique spaces that speak directly to her clients. After graduating cum laude with an interior design degree from The Art Institute of Dallas, the registered interior designer and 15-year industry veteran launched her career in hospitality design, which ignited her love of creating truly original spaces. She has since completed projects worldwide, always ascribing to the theory that a home should evolve to reflect how her clients’ grow and change. “My goal is to change peoples’ lives with a broader range of style tailored to each client,” she says. “I’m interested in designing for how people function and use their home—what’s important to them and their style. I remove my own inclinations and give them something truly unique,” she says. To wit, her motto is 'Dream it. Love it. Live it.'”
