Is the Ritvik System mentioned in the scriptures? The scriptures do not prescribe a fixed method of initiation. The process can vary depending on the Acharya and how he chooses to initiate his disciples. For example, Narada Muni initiated Dhruva Maharaj by giving him a mantra, while Mrigari the hunter was initiated simply by surrendering and breaking his bow. Therefore, the method of initiation is left to the discretion of the Acharya. We should not question Srila Prabhupada’s chosen system of initiation—it was his divine prerogative. As the empowered representative of Lord Chaitanya, his instructions carry full authority.
