Don't Just Do Something - Stand There These two products are so simple to use, you literally just stand there! In this Video, Roger Fredericks, Founder of The Posture System, will explain why stretching muscles in proper sequence is so important for improved posture and mobility. Roger demonstrates two easy to use products - The Postursizer and The Slant Board. They are so easy to use, you literally just stand there! Roger Fredericks wants to talk a little bit today about the rules of stretching. "One of my pet peeves is, and I get these questions all the time since I've been into all this for over 30 years, when people ask me “Roger, can you give me just one good stretch for this...or hey Roger how about a couple good stretches for my shoulder turn, etc.? Trust me, it doesn’t work like that. For example, muscles work in pairs but they also work in chains. In other words muscles in the body are like tile on a roof. Imagine a roof with a lot of tile coming down. While the tile are individual they are also running down together - and the muscles are like that too. This might sound strange but when I when I work with shoulder issues and I've worked with a lot of them, I always start by stretching out the lower body muscles. When a person has a shoulder issue and I stretch out the hips, calves, hamstrings, when we see these release which actually control the shoulders. So when we release these muscles, we see the shoulders reset. Only then will I start doing shoulder exercises to get the shoulders back to function. Because the muscles work in chains, there is very seldom one stretch for “this or that”, it's a sequence for stretching. Having said that there are exceptions to every rule and there are some poses and stretches that are whole body stretches that will work full muscle chains and get everything working synergistically. One of the greatest things I discovered is the Slant Board. When using the Slant Board, I can just stand on there, with my feet directly, knees, under my hips, under my shoulders, with my back and head against the wall and all I'm going to do is just stand there and have our old friend gravity pull the posterior or rear muscles. I'm stretching my calves automatically, I'm stretching my hamstrings automatically and what I'm doing by stretching these muscles is allowing my pelvis now to shoot forward which brings my shoulders back! So, don't do anything but just stand here! Another of the greatest devices I've ever seen is the Postursizer. I’m going to put the Postursizer right behind my neck. Then, standing here with the Postursizer with my hips slightly forward, the backs of my heels against the wall, I will get an even more effective stretch. As I stand here, I am putting resistance on the back of my neck which is actually allowing those the neurons from my brain and my brain stem to open up and go down my spine and look what's happened to my chest - it automatically opens my chest up and I can breathe better, have better cardio, better respiratory, better drainage out of my sinuses. I usually have most of my students, depending on the severity of their poor posture and muscle tightness, just stand there maybe for five or ten minutes. So, don’t just do something – Stand There!" “I created the Posture System because I feel that Posture is THE most neglected and least understood aspect of Health and Fitness.
