CELESTIAL JOURNEYS Step into a universe of sound and vision with Celestial Journeys, a suite of four compositions by Barton McLean enhanced by cosmic images (see attribution note below). Each chapter unfolds upon a new and wondrous world, where phantasmagorical planetary landscapes come alive (AI generated) and the evocative power of classical electroacoustic music composed by McLean on the Kyma System (definitely NOT AI). From the primal forces of "Primeval" to the shimmering brilliance of "Crystal Gardens," to the living forests of "Arboreal," and the mysterious depths of "Shadows," every movement invites you on a discovery of new worlds heretofore unimagined. 3. ARBOREAL "Arboreal" transports us into a towering forest of impossible scale—gigantic, tree-like forms rising out of swampy, primeval depths. There is wonder here, but also a sense of reverence for the sheer immensity of these hulking forms, guardians of a living world both ancient and eternal. Attribution: As a composer, I chose to focus on the music, which was created by me using the Kyma System without any artificial intelligence. However, for the visual portion, my own prompts and the AI realizations are intertwined, with the AI generation being highly integral, not merely referential. As such, the video is meant to be an enhancing factor to the more important musical one, which is 100% composed by me without AI. I am very comfortable with using AI in this regard, not unlike the Renaissance and Baroque artists using assistants to paint the backgrounds while leaving them out of the attribution. In a very real sense, I consider the visual component of these four works also as background to the music, analogous to the way earlier artists did, and make no apologies for that. In our 30+ years of touring, Priscilla and I have often used video backgrounds to enhance our presentation of the more hard-hitting and experimental music performances. Happy listening! PRIMEVAL "Primeval" opens the journey with a vision of the cosmos at its dawn—teeming with strange, primordial life and unfathomable energies. The music (Kyma-generated) evokes a sense of emergence, as if entire worlds are forming before our eyes, with textures both raw and awe-inspiring. Shimmering textures suggest landscapes made not of earth and water, but of glass, crystal, and radiant energy.
