Why is Yotsuba&! So Perfect For Learning Japanese?

Follow up video:    • Yotsuba&! VS Azumanga Daioh and More ...   If you ever tried learning Japanese, you have probably been recommended Yotsuba&! at least once. In this video, I examine exactly why it is recommended so often beyond “its simple and cute”, and explore how the clever formatting and typesetting leads to an almost ideal package to learn through. I don’t think that changes the validity of my argument, as I tried to approach it from a linguistic analysis standpoint, and I largely made this video for beginners wanting to branch out from their textbooks - nonetheless I want to be upfront. Yotsuba&! is also not a language learning panacea that will magically grant you the ability to speak Japanese overnight. It will be just one step on your language learning journey - but I don’t think there is a better first step you could find. The way Yotsuba teaches you Japanese is one of those lightning in a bottle type deals, it has elements that are found in many other manga, but rarely are they all collated in one package. 00:00 - Introduction 01:56 - Japanese Lesson Time 02:53 - Dialogue Formatting 04:37 - Motherese/Parentese 07:16 - Comprehensible Input 09:35 - What Yostuba Gives You 11:02 - Conclusion Cited Works: The Language Instinct by Steven Pinker Medical Express Article on “Motherese” (Quote from Katherine Demuth) - https://medicalxpress.com/news/2011-0....
