This is a movie about the BLACK TIDE, the Ultimate Frisbee team for the University of California - Santa Barbara. The 2015 season marked the 30th anniversary of Tide, and it'd been almost a decade and a half since the documentary "I Bleed Black," which chronicled the 2001 season where Tide almost won Nationals. Even before that, the Black Tide had an extensive history in the college Ultimate community, having won the most championships in the history of the sport (6). A lot has changed since then. And this current season was about one thing: resurrecting the Black Tide to become a Nationals-caliber team once more. My freshman year (2013-2014) I made Tide's A-team. We didn't get the bid in Regionals and our season ended there. Although I fell in love with the sport, and had created some unbreakable friendships, I decided to not return to the team the following year. As a writer and filmmaker, I decided I wanted to allocate my time doing what I really have a passion for. Fortunately, I was able to still be around the team, and what you see is what I filmed throughout the year. Retrospectively, it was a fortuitous decision to not play and to film instead. This film is dedicated to all past, current, and future Black Tide players. Side Notes I'm a student. So, I hope you understand I had to miss the Stanford Invite because I was studying for mid-terms. My voice-over recap of the tournament occurs during our beach practice in the film. I'm truly sorry there's no footage because that's a major tournament. There's a LOT of wind in these clips. You gotta expect that when you're filming outside for basically every shot. But sometimes it's bad. And you can barely hear. So I've subtitled a lot of stuff to help you understand what's being said. ~ Camera Equipment ~ (1) Canon Rebel T3i // 75-300mm lens [only used for gameplay] (2) Canon Powershot S110 // it's an HD point-and-shoot [I used this for everything, even some gameplay when I ran out of memory on the big DSLR] ~ Audio Equipment ~ (1) Blue Snowball iCE - USB microphone (for narration) (...) everything else was just recorded on the internal microphones of the cameras
