The 2025 theme is "d'Etat's Heroes and Zeros which included mostly political and pop culture parody themed floats. Some are: Super Trump, The Diddler, Catwoman (Taylor Swift), and Re-Vengers (Elon Musk). Year founded: 1996 Membership: 545 male riders Signature throw: blinking logo skull bead Le Krewe D’Etat was founded in 1996 to help resurrect the traditional satirical style of Mardi Gras parades. In keeping with its name’s meaning, the “Dictator” reigns over the streets in place of a traditional monarch. Secrecy is of great importance to the krewe, and the identity of its ruler is never made public. D’Etat’s Latin motto translates, “Live to Ride, Ride to Live.” The krewe’s yearly theme is also kept secret until the day of the parade, like the 2025 theme “d’Etat’s Heroes and Zeros.” Most floats parody current events and pop culture in their themes. Le Krewe d’Etat was the first to throw a blinking bead, which has become their signature throw. Members of the krewe dressed as walking skeletons hand out a Gazette with photos of the year’s floats and wooden doubloons. For 2025, the krewe will toss a cocktail shaker, plastic cups that change color, a bar towel, and a long, insulated can sling that holds several beers. Favors are emblazoned with the satirical krewe’s cheery skull logo.
