AOAA Offroad Park Mammoth Trail Tour

Our first look at the Mammoth Trail system at the Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area in Coal Township PA - Wow! We talk a lot in this video, it's quite the story! . This 10M mine reclamation project took over 30 months to complete. The main trail is over a mile long at 6,600 ft with roughly 1000 ft or more of elevation change. The project reclaimed dangerous highwalls (cliffs), a hazardous water body, two vertical openings and one hazardous equipment and facilities site. They removed about 100' off the top of an adjacent tailings pile to collect the boulders used for the trail. The flat top tailings pile now has a helicopter pad and large parking lot for the nearby geological wonder, the Whaleback. . This massive project is intended to bring increased recreational tourism to the area as well as providing 2wd access to the Mammoth trail for spectators and educational opportunities with easy access to the Whaleback. . It's hard to comprehend the scale and I couldn't get the entire trail in one shot. Use the 2 water features and the Whaleback (large black exposed geological feature) for reference points in the drone shots.
