भारत सरकार ने उन दावों को सिरे से खारिज कर दिया है जिनमें कहा गया था कि ईरान के सुप्रीम लीडर Ali Khamenei के निधन पर भारत ने शोक व्यक्त करने में पांच दिन की देरी की। विदेश मंत्रालय के प्रवक्ता Randhir Jaiswal ने साप्ताहिक मीडिया ब्रीफिंग के दौरान कहा कि बिना पूरी जानकारी के इस तरह की टिप्पणियां करना सही नहीं है। विदेश मंत्रालय ने स्पष्ट किया कि भारत ने समय पर अपनी संवेदना व्यक्त की थी। मंत्रालय के अनुसार 5 मार्च को भारत के विदेश सचिव ने Iran के दूतावास जाकर शोक-पुस्तिका पर हस्ताक्षर किए और दिवंगत नेता को श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित की। सरकार ने कहा कि भारत और ईरान के बीच कूटनीतिक संबंध मजबूत हैं और इस तरह के भ्रामक दावों से बचना चाहिए। India has firmly rejected claims suggesting that it delayed expressing condolences over the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei by five days. The ministry clarified that India had paid its respects in a timely manner. According to officials, India’s Foreign Secretary visited the Embassy of Iran on March 5 and signed the condolence book to pay tribute to the late leader.
