A language is not merely a combination of words or an instrument of communication. A language is the backbone of a culture, an accumulation of history, art, architecture and tradition that connects individuals to one another and provides them with a sense of belonging. Currently, a language disappears off the earth every two weeks, and many children are no longer being educated in their native language, which will further diminish the diversity of spoken languages in the future. Educating children in their mother tongue will improve their academic success and can promote cultural sustainability by providing children with the chance to stay connected with their heritage and an opportunity to be proud of their cultural identity. Digital learning tools, such as mobile phones, provide an accessible outlet for children to gain reading skills in their mother-tongue, keeping language, and culture, alive.
