When you think about superstars of European cinema, it’s hard not to think of Monica Bellucci as for decades now over in her home country of Italy, she’s not only been one of their top actresses, but also one of their top sex symbols. And this has been evident in all of her work in her native tongue, work like that which she gave us in Malena, Irreversible, and La Riffa just to name a few. Once she made the move over to Hollywood during the early 2000’s though, her career reached a whole new level of success. And that was because now a much wider audience would become aware of her and her talents in front of the camera. Of course, as the years have progressed, she’s returned to her more natural lane of doing smaller art house fare, something which has really allowed her to flex her acting muscles into her sixties, with her role in 2016’s On the Milky Road drawing particular notice as it earned her a Golden Knight award. And then of course there’s the TV work she’s done, most of which has been in the French language in shows like L’Amour Flou and Dix Pour Cent, but which has also seen her return to the English language with her cameo in Twin Peaks: The Return.
