Lummi Nation police officer shot multiple times while responding to car crash

A Lummi Nation Police Officer was shot multiple times early Monday morning while investigating a traffic incident, the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office reports. The officer, 37, was shot after approaching a driver whose vehicle had veered off the road into a ditch on the 3200 block of N. Red River Rd. The suspect fled the scene, but law enforcement said they have arrested a 26-year-old man they believe shot the officer. He has been arrested for attempted murder. The officer was rushed to receive emergency medical care and has since undergone surgery.
