The steel service center, MOSCA srl, located in Biella, Italy has grown their business by being committed to providing their clients with full fabrication capability. Regardless if the customer’s requirement is plate processing, miscellaneous shapes fabrication or drilling, sawing or thermal cutting of structural steel shapes MOSCA srl has invested in state-of-the-art fabrication technology from FICEP S.p.A. The plate fabrication requirements that MOSCA srl typically addresses includes drilling, scribing of part numbers or fitting locations, milling, tapping, countersinking, counter boring and thermal cutting (oxy-fuel/plasma) for straight and bevel cutting. The FICEP plate processing systems that they have installed includes both gantry and pull through styles of plate processors. Regardless of the style of the plate fabrication cell they each can generate the full complement of thermal and spindle function operations. The FICEP plate processors feature sub-axis spindle positioning to maximize productivity and capabilities for such operations as milling. Each type of plate system has its advantages which enables MOSCA srl to place their clients’ parts on the most cost-effective plate system. When it comes to the processing of miscellaneous and structural steel shapes the commitment of MOSCA srl to invest in labor saving technology is evident. When required to furnish these shapes they selected Intelligent Steel Fabrication, by FICEP. This technology integrates drilling, scribing, milling, sawing and thermal processing with total automation. Once the nested stock length is loaded onto the system and registered by bar code scanning all material handling and processing is performed without human intervention. As each section approaches the next work center the required CNC program is loaded automatically. All material handling processes are automated and performed in masked time as other fabrication processes are being completed simultaneously. The CNC drilling lines for miscellaneous and structural steel shapes use unique steel fabrication technology to achieve automatic steel fabrication. Each spindle has a sub-axis so all spindles can be fully engaged drilling, scribing and milling even when the operations do not share the same length coordinates. The saws feature full automation of clamping, feeding, blade adjustments and rotation of the saw to the desired miter angle with positive rack and pinion positioning. When MOSCA srl’s clients require structural steel shapes that include thermal processes this is addressed with FICEP’s automatic robotic technology for plasma and oxy-fuel cutting. Typical notches, copes, mechanical openings, cut-off and weld prep are generated with full automation.
