“27” is a powerful student film created by 17-year-old Valen Aznavourian. In just one minute, Valen poignantly captures the horrors of animal testing and the bleak reality faced by countless beagles. The film opens with a frightened beagle being tattooed—stripped of identity and reduced to a number in a cold, sterile animal-testing lab, where the pup endures painful experiments and crushing isolation. But then, everything changes when a woman enters the scene and rescues him, carrying him into a world of light, color, and freedom. For the first time, he feels grass beneath his paws, breathes fresh air, and experiences human kindness. No longer a number, he’s given a name: Cookie—a touching tribute to a beagle we had at Freedom Fields. Thank you, Valen, for creating this deeply moving animated short.
