Ethel Smyth - Variations on Bonny Sweet Robin (Ophelia’s Song) for flute, oboe and piano Flute - Maral Yerbol Oboe - Alexandra Moroz Piano - Mikhail Krasnenker Dame Ethel Smyth (1858 - 1944) was a british composer, writer and one of the leaders of the suffragette movement. The pupil of Carl Reinecke and Heinrich Herzogenberg, she had the opportunity to meet the greatest musical minds of her time - for example, Grieg, Tchaikovsky and Brahms. Ranking among other significant female composers of the 19th century with Clara Schumann and Fanny Hensel, she has passionately sympathized with the ideas of feminist struggle and even gave up music for 2 years to join the suffragettes, during which she’s spent several months in prison and composed the anthem of the movement - “The March of the Women”.
