Most of us sleepwalk through existence. We follow routines, chase goals we never chose, and die without ever questioning the script we've been handed. This video explores the disturbing possibility that human consciousness operates on autopilot, trapped in layers of illusion we mistake for reality. Ancient mystics knew something we've forgotten. Yogis in mountain caves, philosophers in Greek academies, desert hermits seeking God—they all discovered the same terrifying secret. Human beings live in a kind of trance, mistaking shadows for substance, dreams for waking life. Modern psychology and neuroscience are only now catching up to what these traditions mapped centuries ago. Gurdjieff, that strange mystic from the Caucasus, watched people walking the streets of Paris and saw automatons. Sophisticated, well-dressed automatons, perhaps, but automatons nonetheless. He claimed humans were machines running on programs they didn't write and couldn't see. His students thought he was speaking metaphorically until they began observing themselves and discovered they couldn't control their own thoughts for more than a few seconds. Buddhist monks spent lifetimes documenting states of consciousness, creating detailed maps of awareness. Vedantic sages declared the world maya—illusion—while Christian contemplatives spoke of the dark night of the soul that precedes illumination. Each tradition used different words for the same recognition: ordinary consciousness is a prison, and most prisoners don't even see the bars. Today we carry the entire world's distractions in our pockets. Algorithms designed by teams of neuroscientists hijack our attention, feeding us exactly what keeps us scrolling, clicking, consuming. The ancient warning about sleepwalking through life has become literal. We stare at screens while crossing streets, swipe through lives we'll never live, and wonder why we feel so empty. The panic in the thumbnail captures what happens when someone glimpses the truth. Awakening sounds peaceful in spiritual books, but the initial recognition feels like falling through ice into dark water. Everything you thought was solid dissolves. The comfortable stories about who you are and why you're here crumble. You realize you've been performing in a play you never auditioned for. Yet beneath that terror lies something extraordinary. When the false self collapses, what remains? When the noise finally stops, what do you hear? Those who push through the panic describe a freedom and clarity that makes their previous life seem like a fever dream. This video holds up a mirror. Look carefully. That unease you sometimes feel, that sense that something fundamental is off—trust it. The part of you that suspects life is deeper, stranger, and more magnificent than you've been told is the part that's already beginning to wake up. #awakening #zen #truth Script: Sid Edit: Joana Riza Voiceover: Rohit Dave Original Score: / @asangvani DISCLAIMER 01: All ideas expressed on this channel are for entertainment and general information purposes only.
