The MOAC — our shop-made Mother Of All Cutters — is finally back from Tuff-triding, and we’re putting it straight to work on a D10 blade tilt cylinder repair. This cylinder barrel has badly worn thrust faces, so we’re rebuilding the end clevis by welding and machining both faces and bores back to spec! First step is gas axing out the old bearings before building the surfaces back up with weld. After letting it cool, we set the barrel up in our Zayer milling machine and get to work with our shop made extended arbor and adjustable boring head — a setup that’s proving to be a real game-changer. Then comes the moment we’ve been waiting for — testing The MOAC. It looks awesome, but we quickly run into an issue: only a few of the inserts are engaging on each rotation. Whether it's from the nitriding process warping the plate or something else, unfortunately it’s not cutting how we expected. But even with the setback, it still machined the faces twice as fast and a quick tool change back to our boring head for the final touches proves just how efficient our new setup really is. This one didn’t go perfectly, but that’s real workshop life. We problem-solve, adapt, and get the job done right — and faster than ever thanks to our new tooling!
