William Smith told ITV News that he was handing himself back in after being accidentally released on Monday, 3 November. The 35-year-old from Surrey was filmed by ITV News as he returned to the prison on Thursday morning, accompanied by his partner, whom he hugged before walking to the entrance, where he approached a member of staff. Details of Smith's mistaken release emerged on Wednesday. He had been sentenced to 45 months in prison for multiple fraud offences at Croydon Crown Court on Monday, 3 November, Surrey Police said. Meanwhile, the families of the three girls murdered in the Southport stabbings have launched a scathing attack on the killer's parents - accusing them of "knowingly allowing evil to exist unchecked under their own roof". In statements released following the conclusion of evidence by the killer's parents, the families of Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, Bebe King, six, and Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine, said there had been a "failure to take responsibility" both before and after their daughter's deaths. And, members of US Congress have written to Andrew Mountbatten Windsor requesting he sit for a “transcribed interview” in connection with his “long-standing friendship” with paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein. In the letter, sent to the former prince on Thursday, the US politicians said the House Oversight Committee had identified “financial records containing notations such as ‘massage for Andrew’ that raise serious questions”. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- • Subscribe to ITV News on YouTube: http://bit.ly/2lOHmNj • Get breaking news and more stories at http://www.itv.com/news Follow ITV News on TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@itvnews?lang=en Follow ITV News on Instagram: / itvnews Follow ITV News on Facebook: / itvnews Follow ITV News on X: / itvnews
