Reinstalling my 160 amp Premier Power Welder in the '85 Toyota 4Runner. A lot of work went into installing the Premier Power Welder. First off, the control box is located where the original intake air flow meter and filter box used to reside. That was moved to the to the other side of the engine bay, into the original location of the battery.: https://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri... The battery (or two of them) were installed under the truck: https://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri...    • Dual Battery Installation   Then an adapter was designed to fit the small case PPW alternator into the original N-D alternator mounting bracket. A longer v-belt and lengthened tensioner arm was also fabricated: https://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri... Have only used the on-board welder a few times on the trail in 20 years, but it was a real life saver when needed. One time, I broke a shock mount 20 miles down a rough mountain road. Broke out some welding rod, scraps of steel and had that fixed in 15 minutes or so. Another time, a 4WD club member had a broken leaf spring and a spring hanger torn off the frame. Both were welded up and we were able to tow the Jeep 10 miles off the trail and get it back home.
