A video from the early days of quarantine (Spring 2020), when I decided to do some exposure latitude testing with my FS5. This shows the effects of pushing over and underexposure with both the internal (HD XAVC-L) and external (RAW SDI to Atomos Shogun) recordings. Everything was shot in slog2 / s-gamut with WB at 5500k, 23.98p, 180° shutter, ISO 2000 / 0dB gain. The lens used was the Rokinon 35mm CINE DS. Key light was the Aputure 300d Mark II. Grading was done in DaVinci Resolve using Alister Chapman's excellent Sony VENICE LUTS (available here: http://www.xdcam-user.com/2018/08/new.... His LUTS include offsets for +/-3 stops, and in those cases I simply used the appropriate LUT to correct exposure. For stops beyond that I attempted to adjust the exposure in Resolve to match the levels in "normal" exposure. As always, it's a good idea to do your own tests. And of course this is just one aspect of the camera and its capabilities, as well as the differences in internal and external recording. Feel free to offer insight or suggestions on my methodology, or your own thoughts if you're a fellow FS5 shooter. Thanks and enjoy! music: https://musopen.org/music/4434-noctur...
