Our road trip from Riva del Garda to Salò on a beautiful summer day was a memorable experience marked by stunning lake views, charming towns, but also heavy traffic along the scenic route. The drive covers approximately 45 kilometers along the western shore of Lake Garda, taking about 50 minutes under normal conditions, but the summer traffic made the journey considerably slower and more congested than usual. This route is famous for its breathtaking lakeside panoramas, tunnels cut into cliffs, winding roads, and picturesque towns nestled between mountains and the lake. Starting from Riva del Garda, known for its clear waters and mountain backdrop, we headed south following a road that hugs the shore, offering panoramic views of Lake Garda’s turquoise waters, waterfront villas, and lush Mediterranean vegetation with palm trees and colorful flowers. The drive passes through small coastal towns like Limone sul Garda and Gargnano, where the traffic thickened as many tourists also took advantage of the weekend to explore the area. The road sometimes narrows and winds through tunnels and sharp curves carved into cliffs, which, coupled with the high volume of cars and occasional buses, added to the slow pace. Despite this, the scenery made the delays worthwhile, with constantly changing views of the lake against a backdrop of towering mountains. Arriving in Salò, the largest town on the Brescia side of the lake, we enjoyed its beautiful historic center, lakeside promenade, and vibrant atmosphere filled with tourists and local market stalls. Salò is well known for its beaches, the Duomo, and charming streets perfect for a relaxed stroll after the drive. The area’s rich history and natural beauty make it a popular tourist destination, especially on busy summer days with many visitors arriving both by road and ferry.
