In this video I interview my client Liesel Teversham, and we talk about the quiet power of introverts and non-salesy marketing, and other topics like The Gallup Strengthsfinder, and EFT Tapping. Enjoy! Notes from Liesel about what she's learned in her business thus far: "I need to reframe marketing -- otherwise I'm not going to do it. Over the 10 years of having my business, the marketing aspect has always been the hardest for me. I wished clients would 'just discover me'! A few years ago, I produced a Telesummit on Self-Care. I did so many hours of hard work, yet hardly anyone knew. I also wrote 2 books and hardly anyone knew. I was so shy to market. I didn't want to look or feel salesy because there is SUCH a lot of that out there and it puts me, as an introvert, right off. My reluctance to market and talk about my products and services occurred even with my own newsletter, resulted in sporadic income with months of flow, and then very dry spells. During these dry periods I used to wonder if I'm really in the right career. I LOVE my client work, but it's not sustainable without clients. Now, when I talk about my service in my newsletter, I feel I'm doing it with an open, giving heart - making myself available to whoever is out there that needs my unique energy and help. And I can offer it with no urgency, desperation or fear that I'm annoying someone. It's like offering water to a crowd. Some of them will be thirsty at the time and want the water and others won't. What I'm doing is to offer the water with an open, loving, heart of service - and gratitude that I CAN. That alone has changed so much around my attitude when I write my newsletters and Facebook posts. ** Secondly, consistency with content is fun. It helps me get clear on my thoughts and work, and helps me to see what people really enjoy and respond to. Last year, my "Word of the Year" was "consistency". I really wanted to practice it. And at the end of the year when I revised my goals and accomplishments, I realise I didn't get one bit closer to that goal. I started working with George just a few months ago, and he has been a prime and fantastic example of someone who is already GREAT at that. When I started working with George, I committed to create regular content on my FB business page 3 times a week. I'm still exercising this muscle of consistency. Some days I forget and it's 8 pm and I go and sit down and I DO it, even if it's just a short post. The commitment I made to myself, in a coaching session, has kept me sticking to it like I've never done before. I'm also finding that as I'm creating content in this regular way, I'm getting clarity on my own thoughts. What is it REALLY that I'm sharing with my clients? What is my message? What do I LOVE sharing and talking about? What keeps coming out of my pen/keyboard? I also find it surprising and delightful to discover which posts and content pieces my audience enjoy and respond to. Sometimes I'm really blown away when I thought something was unremarkable - and there's a big reaction and engagement. It's helped me to see what my audience wants - not only what I enjoy sharing. I've also learned to be far more laid back about the reaction I get. I used to feel pretty upset when there was no reaction. George's teaching has helped me to feel more relaxed about the outcome, and rather focus on the enjoyment of the process, and being of service. That feels far more balanced and joyful to me, to work in this way - getting clear on the intersection between what I love teaching AND what my prospective clients respond to. ** Thirdly, I've learned that working alone is hard for me - co-working works for me. I discovered that it's really hard for me some days to put my bum on the solitary chair, in my home office, and get all my tasks done. My strengths want to support OTHERS, and it's hard for me to stick to my own goals. The co-working model that George teaches and uses, is something that has REALLY worked for me for the past 4 months. I have a regular colleague on Skype messaging every day so that we can support each other to get through our tasks. It feels like a mini-community and I don't feel alone or unsupported. ** Liesel Teversham helps introverts to build confidence. She helps them to work through the blocks and fears that stop them, and find and embrace their true, authentic strengths. Some of her favourite tools are EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques or tapping), and the Gallup Strengthsfinder. Used together, they provide a solid foundation for any introvert who wants to make a difference in the world in their unique, quiet way.
