Fires raging across Manitoba have prompted the provincial government to declare local states of emergency for several provincial parks and communities. In response to growing backlash from First Nations over treaty rights, the Alberta government has amended its controversial referendum law allowing a vote on the question of separation. But as Heather Yourex-West reports, it is unlikely to derail the separatist movement's momentum, which is already taking an economic toll on the province. After a Quebec resident's mail-in ballot was returned to her instead of being counted in the federal election, the Bloc Québécois is vowing legal action to the contest results in the riding of Terrebonne, which they lost to the Liberals by a single vote. As Dan Spector reports, the voter behind the ballot is now speaking out. Plus, a Nova Scotia man and his Dutch half-sister are children of a Canadian soldier who helped liberate the Netherlands from Nazi Germany during the Second World War.
